Make sure all wax residue is removed with your preferred surfboard cleaner
Position your stencil where you want it to go, or sketch it out on your board first with a pencil. Make sure you erase before spraying!
Add a background spray. This works best if the stencil itself is going to be black or a solid colour. After the spray is dry, position your stencil and secure it with tape. You may also want to mask larger areas of the board with paper to prevent spray on any unwanted areas.
We recommend a few quick sprays on a scrap piece of cardboard before spraying your stencil to ensure spray consistency
Now spray the stencil area. You can use a solid spray or multiple colours – the options are endless!
The best part – peel your stencil away to reveal your creation. Move the stencil to the next area of the board and repeat. Tag us in your creations on social.
Stencils aren’t supposed to be prefect. Sometimes they can be a little rough around the edges.
BUT if you do make a big mistake with your stencil, all is not lost.
Ensure your stencil is completely dry (24hrs) then use a light wet & dry paper and lightly sand back the stencil. Then simply re-spray over the entire stencil with white or an alternative base colour. Use as much or as little as you need.
Once this has dried you can re-apply your stencil and hopefully avoid any of the initial mistakes.
For best results we recommend using a good quality spray paint. We choose Montana (used by graffiti/street artists) because it sticks really well but also has amazing colours. Other big name paint brands would be fine but avoid using cheap paint from the $2 dollar shop, or any old cans you find in the garage.
